Nehemiah: A City On A Hill: How God Changes Us

The people of Jerusalem were honest about their previous sins and current struggles. They were not trying to hide or minimize anything. Confession and repentance are necessary for us to be a city on a hill. John the Baptist said we must bear fruit in keeping with repentance. The first recorded sermon of Jesus is one sentence, "Repent, for the kingdom of God is at hand." The first mark of the gospel in our lives will be repentance. And nothing shines brighter than a repentant heart.
